What is Rating?
A rating is an evaluation on a numeric scale, such as 1 to 5 stars.
Example JSON-LD skeleton
This minimal example only identifies a Schema.org type. It is not a complete entity, a Google rich-result test, or a claim about a real business.

Each chain starts at a root type. Multiple paths are shown when Schema.org defines more than one parent. For very complex types, up to 256 paths are displayed; consult the official definition for the full graph.

Properties that accept Rating values (4)
| Property | On types | Description |
|---|---|---|
| certificationRating | Certification | Rating of a certification instance (as defined by an independent certification body). Typically this rating can be used to rate the level to which the requirements of the certification instance are fulfilled. See also [gs1:certificationValue](https://www.gs1.org/voc/certificationValue). |
| contentRating | CreativeWork | Official rating of a piece of content—for example, 'MPAA PG-13'. |
| reviewRating | Review | The rating given in this review. Note that reviews can themselves be rated. The ```reviewRating``` applies to rating given by the review. The [[aggregateRating]] property applies to the review itself, as a creative work. |
| starRating | FoodEstablishment or LodgingBusiness | An official rating for a lodging business or food establishment, e.g. from national associations or standards bodies. Use the author property to indicate the rating organization, e.g. as an Organization with name such as (e.g. HOTREC, DEHOGA, WHR, or Hotelstars). |
Properties usable on Rating (19)
This list includes properties whose domainIncludes names Rating or one of its ancestors. DomainIncludes is advisory; it is not an exhaustive set of permitted properties.
| Property | Expected value types | Description |
|---|---|---|
| additionalType | Text, URL | An additional type for the item, typically used for adding more specific types from external vocabularies in microdata syntax. This is a relationship between something and a class that the thing is in. Typically the value is a URI-identified RDF class, and in this case corresponds to the use of rdf:type in RDF. Text values can be used sparingly, for cases where useful information can be added without their being an appropriate schema to reference. In the case of text values, the class label should follow the schema.org <a href="https://schema.org/docs/styleguide.html">style guide</a>. |
| alternateName | Text | An alias for the item. |
| author | Organization, Person | The author of this content or rating. Please note that author is special in that HTML 5 provides a special mechanism for indicating authorship via the rel tag. That is equivalent to this and may be used interchangeably. |
| bestRating | Number, Text | The highest value allowed in this rating system. |
| description | Text, TextObject | A description of the item. |
| disambiguatingDescription | Text | A sub property of description. A short description of the item used to disambiguate from other, similar items. Information from other properties (in particular, name) may be necessary for the description to be useful for disambiguation. |
| identifier | PropertyValue, Text, URL | The identifier property represents any kind of identifier for any kind of [[Thing]], such as ISBNs, GTIN codes, UUIDs etc. Schema.org provides dedicated properties for representing many of these, either as textual strings or as URL (URI) links. See [background notes](/docs/datamodel.html#identifierBg) for more details. |
| image | ImageObject, URL | An image of the item. This can be a [[URL]] or a fully described [[ImageObject]]. |
| mainEntityOfPage | CreativeWork, URL | Indicates a page (or other CreativeWork) for which this thing is the main entity being described. See [background notes](/docs/datamodel.html#mainEntityBackground) for details. |
| name | Text | The name of the item. |
| owner | Organization, Person | A person or organization who owns this Thing. |
| potentialAction | Action | Indicates a potential Action, which describes an idealized action in which this thing would play an 'object' role. |
| ratingExplanation | Text | A short explanation (e.g. one to two sentences) providing background context and other information that led to the conclusion expressed in the rating. This is particularly applicable to ratings associated with "fact check" markup using [[ClaimReview]]. |
| ratingValue | Number, Text | The rating for the content.\n\nUsage guidelines:\n\n* Use values from 0123456789 (Unicode 'DIGIT ZERO' (U+0030) to 'DIGIT NINE' (U+0039)) rather than superficially similar Unicode symbols.\n* Use '.' (Unicode 'FULL STOP' (U+002E)) rather than ',' to indicate a decimal point. Avoid using these symbols as a readability separator. |
| reviewAspect | StructuredValue, Text | This Review or Rating is relevant to this part or facet of the itemReviewed. |
| sameAs | URL | URL of a reference Web page that unambiguously indicates the item's identity. E.g. the URL of the item's Wikipedia page, Wikidata entry, or official website. |
| subjectOf | CreativeWork, Event | A CreativeWork or Event about this Thing. |
| url | URL | URL of the item. |
| worstRating | Number, Text | The lowest value allowed in this rating system. |
