What does image mean?
An image of the item. This can be a [[URL]] or a fully described [[ImageObject]].
Used on types (domainIncludes)
Expected value types (rangeIncludes)
Schema.org domainIncludes and rangeIncludes are descriptive guidance, not strict validation prohibitions. Check the official reference for updates.
How to use image correctly
A visual representation of the described thing. Depending on the entity, this may be a URL or an ImageObject.
Common mistake to avoid
Check that the image actually represents the entity and that the URL is accessible; do not fabricate an image to satisfy a rule.
Applied example and verification
For a Product, an image should depict the product actually described. For an Article, the image may be associated with the written work. These are different editorial contexts, so a generic site logo is not always an appropriate replacement. Check that the image URL points to a real resource and that the publisher has the right to use it. If an image has several sizes or crops, verify that the chosen representation still shows the correct subject. A missing image should not be filled with an invented URL just to satisfy a checker. When using ImageObject instead of a direct URL, the additional properties should also describe the actual image. Feature-specific Google image requirements must be checked separately.
